Circu-Lab

Circu-Lab In-Person

2 - hr CVI and Circlesinging Labs for small groups, in North London.
Autumn 2024 Dates TBA: Mondays 7.30pm-9.30pm

A space for intermediate and advanced vocal improvisers to build and refine their practice. There will be one advanced and one intermediate group running on alternative weeks.

An opportunity to grow alongside a stable and supportive group of singers with a shared focus, similar skills and confidence, and yet wildly different humans.

There will be exercises and games in the sessions, as well as individual and group homework to keep momentum in between the encounters.

We’ll focus on the different aspects of CVI:

-Develop rhythmic vocabulary and precision. Learn to sing rhythmically and respond to rhythmic musical propositions.

-Understand better the musical context for melody (harmony-mode) and become freer as a melody creator.

-Deepen the use of invented language and words- musical articulation, variety, purpose, texture, meaning.

-Understand musical form: shapes and structures, the compositional aspect of improv.

-Develop a unique, confident voice as a soloist. Vocal freedom, flexibility, authenticity and exploring all the possibilities.
